This program has provided our previous trainees with a clear guide to the to the scaffolding of therapeutic questions using narrative maps.
Level 2 participants will have an opportunity to connect with practitioners interested in and currently using narrative practices. We look forward to continuing to build a community around creative and effective ideas.

This 6-session training program will provide a rich introduction to the theoretical underpinnings of narrative therapy. This Level 1 program is also aimed at practitioners who have familiarity with narrative therapy and are looking to integrate the ideas in their everyday work.
Participants will learn with the use of experiential exercises, video tapes, readings and a live interview. This level one course provides a foundation for the Level 2 course.

Participants will learn about:
How Stories Shape our Lives · Introducing the assumptions that inform narrative ways of working with a focus on the ideas of Michael White and David Epston · Discourses and deconstructing “Taken-for-granted truths” · Discussing Jerome Bruner’s landscape of action & landscape of Identity and how these concepts tell the story of who we are Poststructuralism · exploring structuralist notions of identity and non-structuralist notions of identity (where the idea of identity is something that is created in relationship rather than something fixed) · Identifying intentional states of identity (intentions, values, hopes, purposes, commitments) Deconstruction of Problem Saturated Stories · Learning how to have externalizing conversations with people who come to see us · Exploring the effects and influences of problems on people’s lives · Situating problems in context (looking at the ideas, beliefs and principles that support the problem) · Exploring unique outcomes or exceptions to the problem and separating people from the oppressive dominant stories of their culture Re-Authoring to Preferred Stories · Naming alternative stories and thickening counterplots · Tracing the history and exploring the meaning of unique outcomes · Experience of experience questions · Practicing re-membering conversations that reconnect people to the important figures in their lives Outsider Witness Practices · Creating audiences to thicken preferred stories of people’s lives · Participating in a live session with reflecting team · Co-creating definitional ceremony
And so much more... such as: the scaffolding of what is ‘known and familiar’ to ‘what is possible to know’ in therapeutic conversations; written practices; and lots of stories of narrative application to working in different contexts with children, families, individuals, and young people. |
